The Countdown Is Running!

The best women's U19 national teams will be playing for the World Floorball Championship title from May 2 to 6, 2018 in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

The Swiss national U19 men’s team just barely missed winning a medal at the U19 World Floorball Championship in Växjö (Sweden). In a year, the U19 women’s teams will be competing in Switzerland for World Floorball Championship medals according to the two-year interval. The St. Gallen Athletic Center as well as the Herisau Sports Center will be the venues for the World Championship. The Swiss Group matches as well as the semifinals and finals will be played in St. Gallen.

The U19 WFC is being organized by the Swiss Floorball Association, together with a broadly based local organizing committee (LOC). The St. Gallen-Appenzell Interest Group, specially set up for the event, includes the clubs UHC Waldkirch-St. Gallen (main initiator), UHC Herisau, UH Appenzell, UHT Hot Shots Bronschhofen, TSV Fortitudo Gossau as well as the UHC Black Barons Wil. “By hosting the U19 World Floorball Championship, we would like to further promote floorball in Eastern Switzerland. Clubs from the three cantons St. Gallen, Appenzell Innerrhoden and Ausserrhoden are working toward this goal. Together we can present Switzerland, our region and our sport in the best possible light. I am already excited about this major sports event!” says LOC President Thomas Grob.

The Swiss Floorball Association is also very much looking forward to the title competitions on local territory: “Holding a women’s U19 WFC strengthens the status of women’s floorball in Switzerland. We hope that the positive effect of this event will add to the sport’s significance in Switzerland.” says Daniel Bareiss, Chairman of the Swiss Floorball Association. Hoping to be among the medal winners at the home World Championship, the Swiss juniors have started preparing ahead of time. The team that will be stepping up at the competition a year from now has been training regularly for two years through the project “18 Karat Gold”, created especially for the dream of winning a medal in Switzerland at the 2018 U19 World Floorball Championship.
